These three were SUCH a treat! I went to their place for some Upper East Side at home newborn photography; we had a marvelous time. Baby Sloane was 30 days old, and such a dream. At home newborn sessions are always a blast, and these three did such a super job.

Typically I recommend doing newborn photography doing the first two weeks after your baby is born, but dear little Sloane proves that this isn’t a requirement.

As a general rule, I think that the best time for a newborn shoot is when your baby is 8 – 15 days old. However, this little lady proves that rules are (sometimes) made to be broken.

Before the shoot, I always send clients a brief guide with advice and tips for newborn photography. This prep helps baby sleep and having a relaxing, fun shoot.

We always leave plenty of time for feeding, and soothing, so the newborn sessions are low-key, and a lot of laughs. I know what a crazy time it is in parents’ lives, so we keep things easy breezy, and happy for everyone.

As a NYC newborn photographer, getting everyone prepared for a photo session is one of the most important parts of the job. The pre-shoot emails/chats are a nice way to get to know one another as well, if we haven’t already done a maternity shoot together.

I absolutely love this neon SLOANE sign. That’s one of the joys of at home newborn sessions in NYC: I never know what unexpected treasures I’ll find.

While I am primarily a newborn photographer in NYC, I look forward to summer season in the Hamptons. It’s just around the corner.

Sloane’s parents have such a great sense of style. I loved hearing about how they made their way to Manhattan after growing up in the south. They are die-hard Razorbacks fans, and I told them about my childhood animosity towards basketball player Corliss Williamson (I name I hadn’t uttered in about twenty years). They did not share my sentiments! Still, we managed to find a lot of common ground…

Their family of three is actually a family of four: their ragdoll cat was one of the most easygoing cats I’ve ever met. He was obedient (!) and cute, and quite curious about his baby sister.
