Black and white family portraits in Washington Square Park, NYC

fine art black and white family portraits nyc

It’s currently 9 degrees Farenheit (and, no, I can’t convert that to Celsius) in NYC and I’m blogging photos of a family in Washington Square Park with nary a jacket in sight. How can this be?! Well, I’m just getting caught up blogging photos I shot and edited last year.

Anyway, here are some photos of a family I admire and adore. Their two children were about to turn one and three, and were really fun to work with. Photographing such young siblings certainly keeps me on my toes. It presents different challenges than taking portraits of toddler twins or of two children under the age of one because the siblings are at such different stages of development, but the shoots are always action packed and full of laughs.

Laura and Jeff are such loving and patient parents. They are so good together, and they dote on their children. Their young family has such a lighthearted dynamic, it really is a joy to be around. Their two little ones are already both so confident, inquisitive and polite; it really is impressive.

I always edit photos in both black and white and in color. Each has its virtues, but because I learned photography using black and white film (!) I’ll always have a particular fondness for my first passion which is black and white child portraits. greenwich village downtown nyc family portraits

I like this mix of “camera aware” posed portraits, along with some natural moments. When you look back on your photos, it’s nice to have some traditional portraits documenting your family at that time, and also the day-to-day moments that exemplify your family at that particular stage. This is especially true of families with young children, who change so fast – it’s great to have a record of each year, and the changes they bring. Best family photographer nyfamily portraits in greenwich village nycblack and white family portraits in NYC and east hampton nyoutdoor family portraits in nyc by daisy beatty photography
